Help with find/replace and Dual concordance search please!

I just started using Transit NXT and I'm really struggling with both 2 functions:
1. Find & replace: doesn't find any terms even though they're there, in the target language.
2. Dual Concordance search: this does find the terms, but doesn't say which segment they're in and doesn't seem to give me the option to go to that segment, to manually alter the text.

Hope I'm stumbling on a basic block here, any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks

To 1.: It is difficult to answer to this question without seeing what you do and having more indications on how you use it. Basically, it works like any S&R function in other applications. Make sure you check how the options are set, the cursor is positioned in the right window, etc.
To 2.: The full path of the segment is actually indicated above the pair in the concordance window. Click with the right mouse button on the segment and choose 'Open reference file', this will lead you to the spot of the segment.

Thanks Geneviève!
It was indeed because of the wrongly positioned cursor that the find/replace wasn't yielding results, and the 'Open reference file' is the golden answer I was looking for, the only thing I hadn't tried, believe it or not.
Problem solved!

It looks like this shortcut does not work if you have the English interface loaded. As it works perfectly for the German interface, I think this is a bug and you should report this to Star.

Also is there a way in Transit to reconfirm a segment with an edited translation after the first segment was already confirmed to the TM without the cursor jumping to the next unconfirmed segment or the end of the document? I just want to move from segment to segment and check and edit my translation without trying to find where I left off.

The menu Processing>Navigate will give you information on different types of navigation between segments.
However, for proofreading, you should rather use the proofing mode than a segment-to-segment navigation. There are 3 different levels of proofreading: Spellcheck, Check1 and Check2. Refer to the manual to know the details of this function.

[quote]Annett Roessner wrote:
In regards to the TM, what exactly do I check under reference material?

I don't understand this question.

I suppose there is no way to adjust the screen to have the ST in the left half of the screen as opposed to in the upper window. It’s really doing my head in.

You do actually have the possibility to freely configure your windows how you want to have them. You will find 2 standard layouts for the source and target language under View>Language Pair. Refer to the manual for customise layouts.

Poster: Estefanía González

Hello everyone,

I have just installed Transit NXT SP10 Freelance with no error message and I'm using Win10 64 bit

Both with my customer's project and with the Transit example project I get the same errors.
Then I open a project I get the following three error messages:

Cannot create file 'xxx'
where "xxx" is a full path:
"c:\Users\Public\Documents\Transit NXT\config\global\DEF_ENG.RWD"
"...\DEF_ENG.HWD"
"...\DEF_ENG.TWD"

Then the project opens (Termstar (project dictionaries) appears). But when I choose a language pair, I get additional messages:

Cannot create file 'xxx'
where "xxx" is a full path to a file belonging to the project - for example

"C:\Users\Public\Document\Transit NXT\projects\Nxt_Word\About_Transit NXT.ENG", then the same error for file "About_Transit NXT.DEU"

When I browse to that location - all files including the ones that the error messages regard are there.
I tried reinstalling Transit, and rebooting Windows

I'd be very grateful for any help!

Best,

Estefanía

Hi Estefanía,

sound as if the folder is write protected (more or less).

Do you have any idea why?
When installing Transit, have you used all the folders suggested by the wizard or selected different folders at one point?

To be sure it this is the case, you can try to copy a file (whatever it is, e.g. a Word document) into that folder.
If that works, you ca then try if you can change and resave that file (e.g. open the Word doc, make same changes, save it).

Best regards,

O.N.

Translation of xliff files from Wordpress WPML

Hi,

I have a customer who uses the Wordpress WPML plugin to set up a multilingual website. He sent me xliff files of his website to translate. Obviously, the xliff export of Wordpress/WPML is basically rubbish, so all text including all xml tags are inserted in one segment, and the tags are not protected.

Is there anything I can do at least mark the tags to better see the text to be translated?

Any hints or suggestions would be welcome!

TIA
Iris

Which version of Transit do you have?

Do you usually translate XLIFF files in Transit?

No guarantees this will work, but you might try receiving the project on the second computer and then copying the target language file(s) from the first computer to the project directory on the second (making sure the project is closed on both computers).

Simply unpack the original project on the 2nd computer on which transit is running.
If you have already done work on the translation, you only need to copy the target language file from pc1 to pc2 in the project folder and you can continu. (E.g. if you are translating to English, just copy the .eng file)

Hi everyone,

I have tried to renew my Transit NXT license via License Upgrade.

However, I got this error message: "Configuration Data Load Error". I thought of using the "Repair software" function on my laptop but now the software is not even listed.

Has anyone encountered this issue before?

Many thanks for your help,

Estefanía

PS. I managed to renew the license without any problem on my backup laptop, but why the license renewal process does not work on my regular laptop is a mystery to me.

Hello,
Is it possible to keep the Window/View setting of a project after restarting Transit? When I work an a large project, for which I use specific Window settings (saved under Window->Manage windows), I would like transit to load these settings automatically when I reload the project after restarting Transit. It is the same project, so it is logical that I would like to use the same Window and View settings when continuing my work on this project. Can this be done?

Thanks

Hi,

in the bottom line of tabs, you can use "User roles">>"Manage user roles" to save a window layout specifics with which Transit NXT is supposed to start. For longer projects, this might be worth to be changed to your current preferred layout.

Make your changes, then Windows > Manage windows (on the very left of the Window fonction bar) > Save.

Thank you Iris for this suggestion, but it solves it partially: 1. I have to choose the user role each time I start Transit and 2. It doesn't solve the problem if I open a project from within Transit.
